Crushing on: Tolix-style stools

Last week I told you about how I was inspired by a set of red stools I saw in a kitchen photo.

The ones I ordered were a knockoff brand,  mimicing the stackable galvanized steel Marais stools originally designed by Xavier Pauchard and manufactured by his French brand Tolix in 1950.

They now come in several powder-coated finishes in colors like turquoise, yellow, green, orange, black, white, and -- as you know -- red.  You can also buy them in just a natural steel finish.

You can find them for $285 each at Design Within Reach, $250 at Sundance, or $165 at Life Interiors (Australia).  Overstock is selling them right now for only $74.99 - $80.99 for a set of 2.

I love the way these simple stools brighten up these kitchens:

I was bummed not to find any photos of the turquoise or green stools in action!  Yellow certainly seems to be a popular choice, though.  The natural galvanized steel version gives a cool industrial look, as seen in these photos.

What do you think?  Are you down with the look?

  1. I think they ARE growing on me! Especially as my kids have scooted around so much the legs on my wooden stools are wobbly...again. Those look indestructible and cute. I love the colors!

  2. The form reminds me of a woman's legs in heels - there's something very elegant and sultry in the design. The color pops even this out so that it's subtle.
